In the newly released Nuclear Posture Review, the Obama Administration made significant changes in U.S. nuclear weapons policy by aiming to reduce the reliance on and the numbers of nuclear weapons. On Thursday, April 8, President Obama traveled to Prague to sign the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The Catholic Church has long offered a prominent voice on the ethics of U.S. nuclear weapons policy, calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons and tests. In this symposium hosted by the Institute for Policy Research & Catholic Studies (IPR), panelists will discuss how the Catholic Church assesses the moral dimensions of the Obama Administration's new nuclear weapons policies. Panelists will include:

• Archbishop Edwin Frederick O'Brien of Baltimore, who is also the former head of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA
• Rose Gottemoeller, assistant secretary of state for verification, compliance, and implementation
• Maryann Cusimano Love, IPR fellow, CUA associate professor of politics, U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom fellow
• Retired Maj. Gen. William Burns, professor at the Army War College and a former U.S. arms negotiator
• William Barbieri, IPR fellow, CUA associate professor of theology and religious studies
