In the midst of an economic crisis, a group of businessmen make a desperate deal with gangster Arturo Ui.  What follows is a classic tale of a city held hostage by greed, corruption and violence.  Brecht challenges the audience to consider how much freedom they would willingly give up for the sake of peace and prosperity.    The director, Eleanor Holdridge, is a visiting professor and the head of the M.F.A. Directing program for CUA's Department of Drama.  A freelance director of more than 50 professional productions nationwide, she has held positions as associate artist with Shakespeare & Company, Lenox, Mass.; resident director at New Dramatists in New York City; and co-founder and artistic director for the Red Heel Theatre Company in Philadelphia.
