This sculpture will be displayed as part of "Mudanity," the first exhibit of the fall semester at Salve Regina.

The Department of Art's first exhibit of the fall semester, "Mundanity," features sculptures by eight local artists. They include Steve Jones, art lecturer, and Ryan McKibbin, director of the School of Architecture and Planning's Fabrication Lab.

The exhibit displays sculptural objects that seem familiar to many. Some are made of thrown-away materials - paint can lids, old garden hoses or cast-off tools - while others are representations of common objects remade in traditional sculptural materials - a plaster form with gold leaf, cast-glass potatoes, an iron and candy in cast iron, and wooden limbs.

The artists' work reflects the history that even the most basic objects accrue - uncovering meaning and delight in the commonplace materials and mundane moments that make up daily life.
