WHAT:          CUA Students Dress Up as Periodic Elements for Chemistry Class
WHEN:          Friday, Oct. 29, 9:10 a.m. and 12:10 p.m.
WHERE:        The Catholic University of America
620 Michigan Ave., N.E.
Washington, D.C.
DETAILS: Students enrolled in Professor Diane Bunce's Chemistry 109 and 125 courses will come to
class dressed up as periodic elements or compounds. Each student presents a costume to the
class and the class tries to guess the correct element or compound. In the past, students have
dressed up as potassium (banana) and calcium (skeleton).
The class schedules are as follows:
9:10 a.m., all 46 nursing students enrolled in Chemistry 109 (General, Organic and Biochemistry for Health Sciences) will come in organic guise to Gowan Auditorium.
12:10 p.m. All 43 students in Chemistry 1025 (Chemistry in Our Lives, which is for non-science majors) will come dressed in costume to Room 106 in Hannan Hall.
Before they arrive in class, students research an element (or two or more can research a compound) and come up with three or four facts about the element or compound. They then create a garb that shows or hints at these facts. Professor Bunce also puts on a costume.
