DETAILS: CUA's Department of Modern Languages and Literatures presents its 23rd Annual Robert N. Nicolich Lecture with Georgia Cowart, professor of music at Case Western Reserve University, as the speaker. Cowart is an expert on early modern French music, painting, drama, and spectacle. She is most recently the author of "The Triumph of Pleasure: Louis XIV and the Politics of Spectacle" (University of Chicago Press, 2008). Robert N. Nicolich was an associate professor of French at The Catholic University of America, with a specialization in baroque culture. He died in 1986. The Nicolich Lecture series was established by his friends, family, and colleagues in order to honor his memory. A reception will follow the lecture, which is open to the public.
