Catholic University to Open and Hold Classes Monday, Aug. 29

The Catholic University of America will open and hold classes on Monday, Aug. 29. Please note the following updates.

  • McMahon Hall is expected to reopen Thursday, Sept. 1.
  • The University has made adjustments for classes that were affected by the closure of McMahon Hall and the relocation of offices to other buildings on campus. The Office of Enrollment Services has contacted each student and instructor in those classes individually to inform them of the changes.
  • A complete list of temporary class assignments can be found at the enrollment services website: http://enrollmentservices.cua.edu/res/docs/Microsoft-Word-Temporary-Room-Assignments.pdf and in the "Student Center" page in Cardinal Station. Notices have been posted at the doors of all affected buildings, including the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center. The Raymond A. DuFour Athletic Center is closed.
  • The Pryzbyla Center, along with the Student Restaurant, is open.
  • New student Orientation sessions for the remainder of Aug. 28 are cancelled. This includes Eucharistic Adoration and the D.C. Excursions.
  • The John K. Mullen of Denver Memorial Library is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 28.
  • The Columbus School of Law Library is open until 11:45 p.m. Aug. 28.
  • New students should plan to attend the Ice Cream with the House event on Aug. 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
  • The only Mass on campus Aug. 28 is the 9 p.m. Mass in St. Vincent de Paul Chapel, followed by the Sacrament of Reconciliation at 10 p.m. There is a Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 28. The 11 a.m. Mass in St. Vincent's will begin next Sunday, Sept. 4.

Students who had planned to move on to campus Aug. 28 are encouraged to make travel plans based on their personal safety. The University will work with students who might miss classes this week. The University will announce any adjustments to the academic calendar if necessary.As a reminder, all members of the University community are encouraged to review CUA's preparedness guidelines at http://publicsafety.cua.edu/emergency/index.cfm .The University uses all available communication vehicles to communicate any developments during an emergency, as appropriate.
