CRUX to Present Pulitzer-Prize Winning Poet Franz Wright

DETAILS: CRUX Magazine for the Creative Arts - which publishes original works by Catholic University students, alumni, faculty, and staff - will host poet Franz Wright, who will read some of his work.

Wright won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his book Walking to Martha's Vineyard . Born in Vienna, Wright is the son of American poet James Wright, who himself won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1971. The two are the only father-and-son pair to win a Pulitzer Prize in the same category.

Since graduating from Oberlin College in 1977, Franz Wright has published a number of books of poetry, including The Beforelife (2001), which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, God's Silence (2006), Earlier Poems (2007), Wheeling Motel (2009), and Kindertotenwald (2011). In addition to his original work, Wright has published three books of poetry in translation.

Wright has won a number of awards for his work. In addition to the Pulitzer Prize, he won a Whiting Writer's Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts grant, the PEN/Voelcker Award for Poetry, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. His work frequently appears in prestigious literary publications, such as Poetry , The New Yorker , and The Best American Poetry series of anthologies.
