Feb. 20, 2012 International Festival to Celebrate Global CUA

Catholic University's Center for Global Education hosts the International Festival - events from Feb. 20 to 25 that celebrate the sights, sounds, and tastes of the global cultures that combine to create the CUA community."We are very pleased to host this spring's CUA International Festival to showcase the University's growing diversity and global dimension," says Tanith Fowler Corsi, assistant vice president for global education. "This year's event is a truly collaborative effort, which will lend the International Festival a stronger and more vibrant feel. Please come out and enjoy the week's special events, and help us spread the world across campus."Dates and details of the events follow.• Monday, Feb. 20 , 4:10 to 5 p.m., Hannan Hall, Room 108. Dwayne Guthrie, associate professor of planning practice, School of Architecture and Planning, gives the first Hispanic Civic Engagement talk of the spring 2012 semester, "Getting to Know CUA's Hispanic Neighbors."• Tuesday, Feb. 21 , noon to 2 p.m., Pangborn Hall, Scullen Room. The School of Engineering hosts "CUA Engineering: A Celebration of Culture."• Feb. 21 , 7:30 p.m., Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center Great Room. Students from the French Club, Italian Culture and Heritage Club, Spanish Club, German Club, and Program Board host "Mardi Gras," an international masquerade celebration.• Thursday, Feb. 23 , 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Pryzbyla Center Great Room. The global education center hosts the International Bazaar (formerly Global Fest), which captures the sights, sounds, and tastes of the global cultures at CUA. The event features cultural displays and performances, and a sampling of foods from around the world. As part of Embassy Row, Washington, D.C.-area embassies will share information about their respective cultures and traditions.• Thursday, Feb. 23 , 3:30 p.m., Pryzbyla Center, Room 321. Daniel Colon, clinical assistant professor of Spanish, gives a talk titled "Samba and Son: The Formation of National Identity in Brazil and Cuba."• Friday, Feb. 24 , 8:15 p.m. The House's resident ministers host a trip to the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Md., for a performance of Prokofiev's Fifth Symphony by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are on sale in the Pryzbyla Center Lobby.• Saturday, Feb. 25 , 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., Pryzbyla Center Great Room. The District of Columbia Latino Student Partnership (DCLSP) hosts the 2012 Noche de Gala Latina. Student groups from Catholic, George Washington, American, George Mason, and Georgetown universities host a night of Latino cuisine, cultural performances, dancing, and music provided by DJ Tuk. Tickets for the semi-formal event are available at the Latin Alliance table in the Pryzbyla Center Lobby. Prices are $10 per person and $15 per couple. Tickets purchased at the event are $15 per person.
