DETAILS

Catholic University's Institute for Policy Research & Catholic Studies hosts "Forget Not the Poor: An Interfaith Conference on Poverty," co-sponsored by AJC Global Jewish Advocacy.

The event is noteworthy not only for bringing Catholic and Jewish groups together, but because it is the brainchild of former U.S. ambassador to the Holy See, Thomas Melady, and Stephen Schneck, associate professor of politics, director of the Institute for Policy Research & Catholic Studies, and acting dean of the National Catholic School of Social Service.

The symposium will feature Kathy Saile, director of the Office of Domestic Social Development of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), and Rabbi Sid Schwartz, both experts on anti-poverty policy.

Additionally, Auxiliary Bishop of Baltimore Denis Madden, head of the USCCB Committee on Inter-religious Dialogue, will speak, as will Georgetown law professor Peter Edelman. Brian Banks of the National Capitol Area Food Bank, and Audrey Lyon, executive director of Yachad, a Jewish anti-poverty program, will discuss ways people can help fight poverty in the Washington, D.C., area.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, and to register for the event, visit www.ajcwashington.org/forgetnotthepoor , or call 202-319-5999. MEDIA: For more information, contact Katie Lee or Mary McCarthy Hines in the Office of Public Affairs at 202-319-5600.
