John L. Hannan

John L. Hannan is the new Vice President for Institutional Advancement at The Catholic University of America. He joined the University on Feb. 11.

Hannan came to Catholic University from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., with more than 26 years of experience in higher education fundraising. He joined Notre Dame in 1995 and since 2003 has been director of regional development.

From 1990 to 1995, Hannan was director of regional development at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. During his time there, he also served as director of annual giving (1990-1992), associate director of planned giving (1992-1994), and director of major gifts (1994-1995). At Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., he was director of annual giving and development information systems from 1986 to 1990.

"At this time in the University's history, we need a transformational leader and prolific fundraiser with the experience, ability, and drive to raise the tens of millions of dollars necessary to realize the visionary changes set forth in our strategic and master plans," said University President John Garvey.

"During his tenure at Notre Dame, John has closed more than $190 million in gifts. For seven years, since fiscal year 2000, he annually raised more than $9 million. Last year he was honored with the "Top Performer" award among all of Notre Dame's fundraisers. These achievements, the breadth and depth of John's experience, the evidence of his strategic approach to fundraising, and his record of collaboration with administrators, deans, and faculty members all lead me to conclude that he will be a superb leader of our advancement efforts."
