Father Emil Kapaun

An Army chaplain and CUA alum who died in a Korean prison camp will be awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously today by President Barack Obama at the White House.

Father Emil Kapaun, a U.S. Army chaplain, provided comfort and medical aid to his comrades while under enemy fire during the Korean War.

A priest of the Diocese of Wichita who earned a master's degree in education at Catholic University in 1948, Father Kapaun is one of two alumni whom the Church is considering for sainthood. The other is Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen who was declared venerable by Pope Benedict XVI in June 2012.

For more information about Father Kapaun, visit http://yearforpriests.cua.edu/article01.html . Check the CUA website for the University's coverage of the ceremony by the end of the week.

A live stream of the ceremony will be broadcast at http://www.whitehouse.gov/live at 2:10 p.m. EST.
