The Catholic University of America Magazine was honored with several awards from the Catholic Press Association.
The story “Walking with Nathaniel” received a first-place award in the category of magazine feature article. It appeared in the fall 2012 issue and tells the story of alumnus Denis Asselin and his journey across six states in six weeks to honor his late son and help others along the way.
A third-place award in that category went to the article “Sacred Space,” which appeared in the spring 2012 issue. It features the University's Sacred Space and Cultural Studies concentration within the School of Architecture and Planning and invites readers to learn about sacred spaces around the world.
The magazine also won a second-place award in the category of Best Print and Web Combination Package for the summer 2012 cover story “Safe Haven,” which featured a Pennsylvania animal sanctuary run by alumna Indra Lahiri. The print article and photography in addition to Web components such as a video, photo gallery, and "web extra" article were recognized with this award. "Safe Haven" also won an honorable mention in the category of Best Multiple Picture Package.
The magazine's summer 2012 redesign also was recognized with an honorable mention award. Another honorable mention was awarded to CUA for Best Online Content Not Published in Print for a series of news articles on the University's website.
The alumni magazine is mailed to more than 70,000 Catholic University alumni and friends, and since 2006 has won more than 20 CPA awards. The most recent awards were announced on June 21 at the conclusion of the 2013 Catholic Media Conference in Denver. CPA represents more than 600 member organizations in the United States and Canada.
