University Photographer Ed Pfueller captures special moments on campus, such as the closing fireworks at Luaupalooza.

Catholic University's Office of Public Affairs has received two Accolades awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE): a bronze award for Excellence in Photography and an honorable mention in the category of Institutional Media Relations Programs for the online Experts Guide . The awards were announced in mid-December.

University photographer Ed Pfueller submitted a range of work depicting all aspects of campus life. One judge commented the photos showed "strong compositions and a well-developed sense of moment."

The Experts Guide, developed under the guidance of CUA's Media Relations Specialist Mary McCarthy Hines, provides a central, searchable database featuring faculty and staff members' expertise. The guide includes headshots and links to video, radio, and print interviews.

Since the launch of the guide, there has been a significant increase in requests for faculty interviews by CUA experts. More faculty members have commented that they have been contacted directly by reporters who are able to access their contact information via the guide.

According to a judge in this category, the guide "synthesized a great deal of information and produced a useful resource that had panelists wishing their own institutions would offer something as organized and comprehensive."

The Accolades program recognizes best practices in 39 categories in alumni relations, communications, and advancement. CUA competed in District II, the largest of the eight CASE districts. Catholic University's awards are listed among other winners in District II including the University of Maryland, the University of Rochester, Lehigh University, New York University, Johns Hopkins University, American University, George Washington University, Seton Hall University, and Princeton University.

The awards will be presented at the CASE District II annual conference in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Feb. 2, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.
