Stephen Schneck, director of the Institute for Policy Research & Catholic Studies and associate professor of politics at The Catholic University of America, has been appointed as a member of President Barack Obama's third Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.
Comprised of religious and secular leaders, scholars, and experts in fields related to the work of faith-based and neighborhood organizations, the council will consider governmental efforts to reduce poverty and inequality and create opportunity for all citizens through changes in policies, programs, and practices that affect the delivery of services by faith-based and community organizations and the needs of low-income and other underserved persons.
"The council has been tasked to address the daunting issues of poverty and inequality," said Schneck. "I'm honored and humbled to be asked by President Obama to serve and ask for prayers for the council's work."
Schneck has been the director of the Institute for Policy Research & Catholic Studies, an academic think tank focused on public policy issues related to Catholic social thought, since 2005. He also previously served as the chair of the Department of Politics from 1995 to 2007.
