The Catholic University of America mourns the passing of Justice Antonin Scalia. Justice Scalia was a man who loved his family, his faith, his country and the Constitution that established it. He insisted that there is no such thing as a Catholic judge, only good and bad ones. But in his 30 years on the Supreme Court he offered a model for American Catholics of how we might serve both God and country. Justice Scalia was a great friend to The Catholic University of America. In 1994, The Catholic University of America Alumni Association awarded him the James Cardinal Gibbons Medal - the Alumni Association's highest honor. In 1999 the University awarded Justice Scalia an honorary degree. We pray for the repose of Justice Scalia's soul and the consolation of his family. We pray that God will continue to bless our country with such good and faithful servants.
