Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington and Chancellor of The Catholic University of America, will address students April 27 as part of University President John Garvey's class on "The Virtues." In the talk, "Amoris Laetitia: The Recent Synods and the Church's Ancient Teaching on the Family," Cardinal Wuerl will discuss Pope Francis's recent exhortation on the family, specifically the many challenges contemporary families face and the Church's pastoral response.
Cardinal Wuerl, who received both a B.A. and a M.A. from the CUA School of Philosophy, was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI. He participated in the March 2013 conclave to elect Pope Francis and serves on numerous national and international bodies including the Vatican Congregations for the Doctrine of the Faith, for Bishops, for Clergy, the Pontifical Councils for Promoting Christian Unity, for Culture, and the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See.
The class, which will be open to the public, will begin at 11:10 a.m. in Great Room A of the Pryzbyla University Center. It will also be live streamed on the Archdiocese of Washington's Facebook page at facebook.com/adw.org.
