Ryn examines the ideology of American empire, which has been propounded by so-called neoconservatives and strongly influenced the �Bush doctrine� after 9/11. He argues that this ideology breaks sharply with the older American political tradition and has much in common with the ideas of the Jacobins who inspired the French Revolution that started in 1789.
