The Catholic Media Association has announced the results of its Alumni Magazine Awards Program, with three honors for CatholicU magazine.

The University’s magazine took second place in the category Alumni Magazine of the Year. The magazine also received two writing awards for feature articles that appeared in the spring 2020 issue of the magazine. Titled “Sharing the Journey,” the edition is dedicated to the theme of immigration.

A first place in the category of Feature Writing was awarded to “Making the Case for Humanity,” written by Managing Editor Ellen Woods. The article details the social justice-inspired work of the Columbus School of Law’s Immigration and Refugee Advocacy Clinic.

A second place award in the category of Best Profile went to the article “Fleeing for Her Faith.” Written by News Editor Katie Bahr, the profile tells the story of Dominican Sister Raghad Saeed, who was displaced from her home in Iraq by terrorist forces. She is now a physics doctoral student at CatholicU. The University worked closely with Catholic Charities U.S.A. to make it possible for Sister Raghad to come to the United States to continue her graduate studies.

It was also announced this week that the Catholic Project’s podcast “Crisis: Clergy Abuse in the Catholic Church” was awarded second place in the “Best Podcast” category of the Gabriel Awards. Read more on the Catholic Project website

CatholicU magazine is still eligible for more awards in the general news categories. Those results will be announced at the Catholic Media Conference in June.
