In a new video, three graduating seniors with majors in nursing, politics and English/Spanish tell how Catholic University helped them grow as professionals in their chosen fields and as people of faith.
After Kelsey Flynn, of Darnestown, Md., went on mission trips to Belize, she said, "my eyes were opened to the poverty that's around the world." Flynn, a nursing major, said her experience in Belize taught her "how much I truly cared about helping people." She described her "ultimate goal in nursing" as setting up clinics for people in countries where heath care services are lacking.
Mark Koury, a politics major from Jackson, Miss., said, "being in Washington, D.C., gives this university an edge." He referred to the city as "our classroom, our workplace and our place of service."
Michelle Cappuccio, an English/Spanish double major from Mount Laurel, N.J., told how her involvement with food runs for the homeless deepened her faith and shifted her career goals toward service to others. "It makes me feel great to know that I am just one person, but there are so many of us who are so interested in others and the betterment of the world," Cappuccio said. "I want to make sure I'm doing something that is making a difference because that's really what life is about."
They came to The Catholic University of America from three different parts of the country, chose different majors and followed diverse paths. But each of these three seniors exemplifies qualities that define what it means to be a graduate of The Catholic University of America.
