The Catholic University of America Press has released its 2011 spring and summer catalog, which features 19 new titles in categories that range from religion and church history to philosophy and medieval studies. It also highlights recently published books as well as bestsellers from the press.

In addition, CUA Press has expanded its e-book availability. Select titles are available as Adobe digital editions for direct purchase or short-term licensing through the website. The majority of volumes in the popular Fathers of the Church series are available, as are other bestselling titles.

"The Catholic University of America Press has a long tradition of publishing scholarly works of intellectual distinction," said CUA Press Director Trevor Lipscombe in his editor's note in the catalog.

"We place great value on each phase of the publishing process: from the selection of promising manuscripts and their enhancement by rigorous peer review; to careful and engaged manuscript editing and award-winning book design; to vigorous national and international marketing and publicity campaigns."

CUA faculty members are highlighted among the new book selections. They include:

  • Monsignor John F. Wippel, professor of philosophy and editor of the collection "The Ultimate Why Question."
  • Rev. Kurt Pritzl, O.P., dean and associate professor of philosophy and a contributor to "Apostolic Religious Life in America Today."
  • Kenneth Pennington, the Kelly-Quinn Professor of Ecclesiastical and Legal History, who is honored in "Medieval Church Law and the Origins of the Western Legal Tradition."
  • Monica J. Blanchard, curator of the Semitics/Institute of Christian Oriental Research Library at CUA and co-editor of "To Train His Soul in Books." The book is dedicated to Professor of Semitics Rev. Sidney Griffith, professor of semetics.

CUA Press publishes scholarly works and serious studies of general interest in the humanities and social sciences, namely in history (ecclesiastical and secular), literature and languages, philosophy, political theory, social studies, and theology. Interdisciplinary emphases are found in patristics, medieval studies, and Irish studies. CUA Press is a founding member of the Association of American University Presses.
