Duilia de Mello, an associate professor at Catholic University's physics department and a research associate at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, has been chosen as one of the Women Changing Brazil.
She will participate as one of the 10 panelists in Barnard College's fifth annual global symposium Women Changing Brazil, in Sao Paulo on March 18. The symposium, which is exclusively sponsored by Credit Suisse, showcases the work being done in government, science, media, and business by some of the most pre-eminent women in Brazil. She will participate in the panel discussion titled Women in Science. The symposium is expected to draw an audience of about 400 people.
"As a native of Brazil, I am honored that Barnard College chose me as one of the Women Changing Brazil," said de Mello. "I am particularly involved in the Brazilian Science without Borders program and I hope to change Brazil one student at a time. We currently have 16 Science without Borders students at CUA."
De Mello's research interests include the role of evolution in galaxy properties, the environmental effects in galaxy evolution-formation, and the properties of star-forming galaxies. She teaches astronomy and physics.
