Annual Fall Seminar: "Justice and Responsibility: Cultural and Philosophical Considerations"

DETAILS: CUA's Center for the Study of Culture and Values (CSCV) begins its annual fall seminar on Sept. 9 with scholars from Canada, China, India, Italy, Nigeria, Philippines, Romania, Russia, the United States, Ukraine, etc. The weekly themes will be:

Week One: Introduction of 12 scholars from the countries noted above. Thematic Introduction.

Week Two: Understanding justice: a Western approach. Readings on Rawls, Locke, Hume, Ricoeur, Dworkin, Nozick, etc.

Week Three: Understanding justice: an Eastern approach. A delegation of 12 scholars from the Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences will discuss related issues with the seminar participants. Paper presentations by the seminar participants.

Week Four: Philosophical reflection and religious cultures on justice and responsibility.

Week Five: Justice as the good and the beautiful; resources assembled from many cultures in these global times.
