Eileen Dombo, assistant professor of social service, was interviewed on WTOP on women in abusive relationships.
From: WTOP Date: Sept. 9, 2014
When asked why women stay in abusive relationships, Dombo replied that that is not the right question to be asked. When we ask, "Why does she stay?," we take the focus off the perpetrator, she explains. We need to ask, why do people hurt those they love, and why people who are being hurt feel like they cannot ask for help.
"The more we open up a national dialogue about what we deserve and do not deserve in relationships ... then we will have a larger discussion about what is important in our culture," Dombo said.
