Last week, Pope Francis made remarks reinforcing that divorced Catholics who remarry - and their children - are not excommunicated from the Church. Though no doctrinal change accompanied the his words - the divorced and their spouses still may not receive communion - they are of a piece with his prior thoughts on moral ambiguities. We consider whether this marks a change from his predecessors, or if the messenger is really what's generating buzz.
