In 1922, General John Joseph Pershing said about the global war that would become known as World War I: "No matter how patriotic or brave were the men or how self-sacrificing," he said, "the women always went them one better."
And Alexandria-based author and editor Elizabeth Foxwell thinks not nearly enough people know that.
