| Lecture: "Relevance of Traditional Materials, Technology and Craftsmanship in Contemporary Architecture and Interior Design" Catholic University's School of Architecture and Planning is partnering with the Embassy of India and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to present a lecture titled "Relevance of Traditional Materials, Technology and Craftsmanship in Contemporary Architecture and Interior Design" by architect Nimish Patel. The lecture is the fourth event in the school's 2010 India Lecture Series "Crossing Boundaries: Modernism and Indian Cultural Traditions." Past Embassy Lecture Series have explored the architecture of Peru, Norway, Austria, Finland, Switzerland and Japan in partnership with embassies in D.C. Architects and husband-and-wife team Nimish Patel and Parul Zaveri established Abhikram , a planning, architecture, conservation and interiors consultancy firm in 1979, with a view to exploring design directions and design processes that make the built environment functionally, psychologically, environmentally and spiritually more balanced, contextual and comfortable. Patel has lectured extensively in India, Europe, the United States, Africa, China and Australia. He has officiated on projects, and conducted workshops, both nationally and internationally. The work of Abhikram , located in Ahmedabad, India, has been published in professional journals and newspapers in India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Italy and Australia. Patel chairs the Green Building Group of Gujarat and, along with his wife, Zaveri, is a member of the Committee on Drafting the Building Control Guidelines for the Heritage Sensitive Development of the Settlements in Gujarat.
