While members of the U.S. Olympic team were competing for gold in the world's largest athletic competition, players on the CUA men's lacrosse team found themselves in a match-up with the Scottish National Lacrosse Team Feb. 18 at Cardinal Stadium.While CUA and the Scottish team were not competing for medals, an excited buzz filled the stadium as the two teams battled it out."It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a lot of the guys," said CUA head coach Brooks Singer. "To have the opportunity to play a team like that is something that will remain with them for years to come."The Cardinals defeated the visiting Scots by a score of 18-6, led by the duo of Tyler Catalani and Justin Shaufler with three goals apiece.After the final buzzer sounded, the two teams met for a post-game dinner and exchanged gifts from their respective countries."The coach said that of all the countries they have traveled to, this was the warmest reception that they'd ever received," noted Singer. "It was nice to play the game, but at the end of the day, our guys know it's bigger than that. It's about meeting people from all over the world and gaining a sense of culture."When the visitors arrived in boots and kilts, the reverse culture shock was apparent. "We didn't really know what to expect," laughed Singer. "It was just a neat experience."
