Very Rev. David O'Connell, C.M., president of The Catholic University of America, along with CUA Provost James Brennan, met today with Vatican Congregation for Catholic Education officials Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski, prefect, and Archbishop Jean-Louis Bruguès, O.P., secretary, in Rome to discuss Catholic higher education in the United States and to share reflections on the present and future of CUA.Afterward, Father O'Connell met privately with congregation officials. CUA's president has served as a consultor for the congregation for the past five years."Our university has a unique and special relationship with the Holy See," noted Father O'Connell. "Such meetings strengthen our ties and also provide CUA the occasion for offering service to the universal Church."Cardinal Grocholewski expressed the Church's gratitude to CUA for its enduring commitment to Catholic identity and mission in American higher education.
