| Members of The Catholic University of America community will gather at Caldwell Chapel tomorrow to offer a Mass for the hundreds of thousands of victims of the earthquake that devastated Port au Prince, Haiti, on Jan. 12. Very Rev. David M. O'Connell, C.M., president of the university, will serve as presider and homilist. This Mass will mark the beginning of "CUA Cares: A Novena of Prayer and Action for the People of Haiti." CUA students will be organizing committees to help increase awareness of the tragedy in Haiti, to offer prayerful support and to raise funds. All monies collected for Haiti will be sent to Catholic Relief Services. Throughout the novena (i.e. the "nine days"), donations will be collected online, at a table in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center and at the Office of the President. In an e-mail message this afternoon to the university community, Father O'Connell said "The Catholic University of America has always responded with great generosity to human suffering and need. And the people of Haiti - the poorest country in our hemisphere - are in the most desperate need of our love and compassion at this time. Let us offer them our hearts and our help."
