MEANING OF LENT - Monsignor Kevin Irwin, dean of the School of Theology and Religious Studies and the Monsignor Walter J. Schmitz Professor of Liturgy Studies, is the author of 12 books on liturgy and sacraments. His writings include "Advent-Christmas, Lent and Easter: A Guide to Eucharist and Hours," "Liturgy, Prayer and Spirituality," "Liturgical Theology: A Primer" and "Context and Text: Method in Liturgical Theology." READINGS OF LENT - Rev. Francis T. Gignac, S.J., professor of theology and religious studies, has been a longtime commentator on the readings of Lent for the Catholic press. Father Gignac is the author of "An Introductory New Testament Greek Course: A Grammar of the Greek Papyri of the Roman and Byzantine Periods." He has had articles published in Catholic Biblical Quarterly, the Coptic Encyclopaedia and the Oxford Companion to the Bible. Father Gignac can be reached by e-mail:

LENTEN TRADITIONS - Rev. Mark M. Morozowich, assistant professor of liturgy, is available to comment on the Catholic Church's liturgical traditions during the Lenten season, in particular from the perspective of its different rites (e.g. Byzantine, Maronite). Also an expert on the Latin rite, he has taught a CUA course on the historical study of the liturgical year and its traditions. He is the author of the soon-to-be published book "Holy Thursday in the Jerusalem and Constantinopolitan Traditions: Liturgical Celebrations from the 4th to the 14th Centuries." He recently published the article "A Palm Sunday Procession in the Byzantine Tradition? A Study of the Jerusalem and Constantinopolitan Evidence."
