Archbishop Roland Minnerath

Most Rev. Roland Minnerath, Archbishop of Dijon, France, is a noted writer and speaker on the relationship between church and state, and formerly served in the diplomatic service of the Vatican.

At Catholic University he will present the university's seventh annual James H. Provost Lecture on the topic of the relationship of church and state. In recent years, institutions in many countries and on more than one continent have invited Archbishop Minnerath to speak on the church-state relationship and freedom of religion.   The holder of doctorates in business, theology and canon law, the archbishop is the author of many publications concerning social ethics, ecclesial history and canon law.

CUA's Provost Lecture is named in honor of Rev. James H. Provost, a beloved professor of canon law at Catholic University from 1979 until his death in 2000.  In memory of Father Provost's wide-ranging interests, the lecture series highlights issues of concern to canon lawyers but also of broader interest related to the Church and society.

The lecture is free and open to the public. It precedes the CUA School of Canon Law's March 19-20 Canonical Spring Workshop, an annual continuing-education symposium that in past years has attracted an average of 50 to 75 canon lawyers serving in dioceses and church institutions around the country.

CUA's School of Canon Law is the only U.S. school offering ecclesiastical degrees in canon law. For more information about the lecture, contact the School of Canon Law at 202-319-5492 or cua-canonlaw@cua.edu .
