A collection of essays on late antiquity edited by Catholic University Professor Philip Rousseau was named a winner of a 2009 American Publishers Award for Professional and Scholarly Excellence.A Companion to Late Antiquity , published in 2009 by John Wiley & Sons, won in the single volume reference/humanities and social sciences category of the PROSE Awards.
"I'm naturally very pleased by this award," said Rousseau, who is the Andrew W. Mellon Distinguished Professor of Early Christian Studies at CUA. "It recognizes the outstanding quality of my 39 contributors, each responsible for a 7,000-8,000 word chapter. It may also recognize, I think, what we all strove for: to achieve something 'different' - in structure, in emphasis, in contributors' age and experience," he added. "This professionalism and this scholarship have been a delight to share in and encourage."
Rousseau also is the director of the Center for the Study of Early Christianity at CUA.
The award formally was announced Feb. 4 during the annual conference of the Professional and Scholarly Publishing division of the Association of American Publishers in Washington, D.C.The PROSE Awards have recognized professional and scholarly publishing annually since 1976. Judges include peer publishers, librarians and medical professionals.
