CUA's Office of Campus Activities is presenting its second series of Dialogue on Demand workshops by university faculty on topics tied to events in the news this spring. The series "cuts across academic disciplines and provides opportunities for students to explore topics of interest outside their area of study and interact with outstanding faculty whom they may otherwise never encounter," says Bill Jonas, director of the campus activities office. The program was created last year to present "timely, relevant and interesting topics to students in an informal setting, while maintaining academic credibility by utilizing the talents and passion of CUA faculty," Jonas says. The workshops will take place at 6 p.m. in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center, Room 327.

"Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks: Married to the Blues" Ernest Suarez, chair of the Department of English, will discuss the Grammy awards and blues music via video conference with Mike Mattison, lead singer of the Derek Trucks band. View the workshop at

Tuesday, Feb. 9 "Partners for Freedom? Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln in the Civil War Era" In honor of Black History Month, Stephen West, associate professor of history, will present a talk focusing on the lives of Douglass and Lincoln.

Wednesday, Feb. 24 "Sport Psychology 101: An Introduction to Strategies for Building Mental Fitness" In recognition of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Keith Kaufman, psychology research associate, will talk about sport psychology and offer strategies for building mental fitness.

Wednesday, March 3 "Women in Sports" Sandra Hanson, professor of sociology, will tie themes from the Winter Olympics with the celebration of Women's History Month.

Wednesday, March 24 "The Archaeology of Tomorrow" In honor of International Week at CUA, Travis Price, adjunct professor of architecture and planning, will discuss the archaeology of tomorrow, drawing on views of global sacred spaces and the international design/build work of CUA architecture students.

Wednesday, April 14 "Global Warming - Global Poverty: The Connections" As a prelude to Earth Day on April 22, William Dinges, professor of theology and religious studies, will talk about the impact that global warming has on the world's poor.
This semester, the Office of Campus Activities is offering Starbucks coupons, pizza parties and bookstore gift certificates to students and groups that attend the sessions regularly.
