Catholic University Poetry Reading and Workshop

The Catholic University of America Aquinas Hall Auditorium 620 Michigan Ave., N.E. Washington, D.C.

Three female Washington, D.C., poets will be featured in a CUA poetry reading and workshop:

• Sandra Beasley, whose second collection, "I Was the Jukebox," won the 2009 Barnard Women Poets Prize and will be published in April by W.W. Norton. Her book "Theories of Falling" won the 2007 New Issues Poetry Prize.

• Deborah Ager, founding editor of "32 Poems" magazine and the author of "Midnight Voices."

• Valzhyna Mort, a Belarusian poet and author of the poetry book "Factory of Tears." A lecturer at the University of Baltimore, she is a recipient of a Lannan Literary Fellowship.

The event also will showcase readings by the yet-to-be-named winners of two CUA competitions, the Michael Landow Crux Poetry Prize and the Thomas O'Hagan Prize.

After the readings, a reception and book signing will be held in the lobby of Aquinas Hall.

Following the reception, the poets will talk about writing in a workshop on "Voice in Poetry and Essay Writing." Hosted by Rosemary Winslow, associate professor of English, the workshop will include a Q-and-A session.

CUA's poetry event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in university lots.
