| DETAILS: | Catholic University's School of Architecture and Planning is partnering with the Embassy of India and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to present a lecture titled "Architecture and Cultural Significance: Conservation and Contemporary Projects" by architect Rahul Mehrotra. The lecture is the fifth event in the school's 2010 India Lecture Series "Crossing Boundaries: Modernism and Indian Cultural Traditions." Past Embassy Lecture Series have explored the architecture of Peru, Norway, Austria, Finland, Switzerland and Japan in partnership with embassies in D.C. Rahul Mehrotra is principal of RMA Architects. His projects include the Laxmi Machine Works corporate office in Coimbatore; an orphanage for Children of the World in New Bombay; the D.J. Academy for Managerial Excellence in Coimbatore; an extension to the Prince of Wales Museum in Bombay; and the Rural Development Institute in Tuljapur. Mehrotra has worked on several adaptive reuse projects involving old buildings in Bombay, Ahmedabad, Indore and Hyderabad. Mehrotra has recently finished a 10-acre Hewlett-Packard Development Company campus in Bangalore; a campus for Magic Bus, a non-governmental organization that works with street children; the restoration of the Chowmahalla Palace in Hyderabad; and a conservation master plan for the Taj Mahal, with the Taj Mahal Conservation Collaborative. He is currently working on a corporate office building in Hyderabad, the Village for 100 Elephants in Jaipur and a master plan for the conservation of the historic site of Pushkar in Rajasthan. The projects of RMA Architects have been published in architectural journals in India and around the world. A reception will follow.
