| DETAILS: | The Theological College community will participate in a Mass to mark the National Day of Prayer for Vocations in the Black Catholic Community. Most Rev. Martin Holley, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Washington, will be the chief celebrant and homilist. The Mass is being celebrated on the 124th anniversary of the ordination of Rev. Augustus Tolton, the first African-American diocesan priest in the United States. Ordained in 1886, Father Tolton served as pastor of a parish in Quincy, Ill., and later of St. Monica's Church in Chicago. The Archdiocese of Chicago is advancing Father Tolton's consideration for sainthood. The Theological College Mass, being held during this Year for Priests as designated by Pope Benedict XVI, is being coordinated by Christopher Rhodes, a seminarian from the Archdiocese of Louisville, Ky., and president of the National Black Catholic Seminarians Association.
