Catholic University's School of Architecture and Planning explores various meanings of the notion of "emergence" in its 2010 Summer Lecture Series, which starts Wednesday, July 14.

Titled (E)MERGE, the series explores the concept of "emergence" in today's contemporary architectural practices. The series will examine how different understandings of the term develop from evolutionary processes in the work of the presenters and how these ideas give birth to new techniques and forms that affect the way individuals experience architecture and design.

All lectures start at 5:30 p.m. and take place in the Edward M. Crough Center for Architectural Studies, Koubek Auditorium. The lecture titles, dates and speakers follow:

  • Wednesday, July 14, Alan Organschi, principal of Gray Organschi Architecture in New Haven, Conn., "Detritus"
  • Wednesday, July 21, Hilary Sample, principal of MOS, New Haven, and assistant professor of architecture at Yale University, "In Progress"
  • Wednesday, July 28, Michael Szivos, partner and co-founder of softLAB, New York City, "PERFORMANCE - Customizing Design"
