The following statement is from Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl, on the appointment of Vincentian Father David O'Connell, president of The Catholic University of America, as coadjutor bishop of Trenton:
"The appointment of Father David O'Connell, C.M. as Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton is a cause of joy and a recognition of his pastoral ability and love of the Church. I have known Bishop-elect O'Connell for many years as a board member of The Catholic University of America and for the past four years as chancellor of the university. In that time I have recognized, as have so many, his service to the university and the renewal of its sense of Catholic identity, his pastoral zeal and his commitment to academic excellence. He is widely recognized for his ministry to students, helping them to deepen their faith. All of this experience will serve him well as he undertakes this new responsibility in the Diocese of Trenton. The faithful will find in him a wise and caring shepherd. May God bless him in his new ministry."
