| Catholic University's School of Architecture and Planning presents the lecture "In Progress" by architect Hilary Sample - the second event in the school's 2010 Summer Lecture Series "(E)MERGE." The series explores the meanings of "emergence" in today's contemporary architectural practices. It will examine how different understandings of the term develop from evolutionary processes in the work of the presenters and how these concepts give birth to new techniques and forms and affect the way architecture and design are experienced today. Sample, principal at MOS architecture firm in New Haven, Conn., and assistant professor of architecture at Yale, will discuss the work of her firm. MOS's current work includes a villa in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, and the public art installation "Afterparty" PS1/MoMA in Long Island City. Projects designed at MOS have been showcased in numerous publications, including Architectural Record , Architect and The New York Times . They have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Arts Institute in Chicago. The firm has received numerous honors, most recently a Design Award from Progressive Architecture, and from New York City Architectural League's Emerging Voices program.
