| Catholic University's School of Architecture and Planning presents the lecture "PERFORMANCE - Customizing Design" by architectural designer Michael Szivos - the final event in the school's 2010 Summer Lecture Series "(E)MERGE." The series explores the meanings of "emergence" in today's contemporary architectural practices. It will examine how different understandings of the term develop from evolutionary processes in the work of the presenters and how these concepts give birth to new techniques and forms and affect the way architecture and design are experienced today. Szivos, partner and co-founder of softLAB design studio, New York, will discuss the work of his firm. SoftLAB was founded with the idea that design should allow for change and projects should be designed for adaptability. The studio has produced projects of many media, from large-scale sculpture to interactive digital designs. "This lecture will discuss the studio's conceptual approach and design methodology and focus specifically on the relationship of the design work across various mediums," says Szivos.
