Annual Conference Explores Impact of Relationships on Commerce
"A lifestyle of giving, of seeing each person as the focus of our actions, brings to life a method of doing business that offers hope to our world especially in these troubled economic times," reads a flyer distributed by the Economy of Communion in Freedom (EoC) for its North American conference.
The conference is co-sponsored by Catholic University. It will take place Aug. 6-8 in CUA's Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center, Great Room.
"The Business of Working in Communion: Managing a Person-Centered Business" is the theme for this annual meeting. Conference participants will consider the role of relationships in business - within a company, between the company and its local community, and between the company and the larger global community. The conference will draw business professionals, academics and students.
More than 800 businesses worldwide make up the EoC. Formed nearly 20 years ago, it has gained international attention and was mentioned by Pope Benedict XVI in his encyclical Caritas in Veritate in June 2009.
Catholic University's Department of Business and Economics is also heeding the advice of Pope Benedict XVI to place the unity of truth and reason at the forefront of education, says Stewart McHie, adjunct professor.
In addition to co-sponsoring the EoC conference, this fall the university will welcome the first class of students for its Master of Science in Business Analysis program .
"The one-year program is based on the concept of business as a service to society and providing students with the applicable business skills they need to be competitive in the workplace," says program director McHie.
