In honor of Constitution Day on Friday, Sept. 17, The Catholic University of America will host a series of lectures, including one by new CUA President John Garvey. He is an expert in constitutional law, religious liberty and the First Amendment.

Constitution Day was established by Congress in 2004 to mark the anniversary of the last day of the Constitutional Convention - Sept. 17, 1787 - when 39 of the 55 delegates signed the draft constitution.

The Office of Campus Activities is sponsoring the series. A light reception will follow each lecture. Details about the talks follow.

  • Monday, Sept. 13, 6 p.m. "Getting from Then to Now: Running a 21st-Century Congress on an 18th-Century Blueprint" by Matthew Glassman, adjunct professor of politics and analyst for the Congressional Research Service Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center, Room 327
  • Tuesday, Sept. 14, 6 p.m. "The Roots of Democracy in Canon Law" by Kenneth Pennington, CUA professor of canon law and professor at CUA's Columbus School of Law Pryzbyla Center, Room 323
  • Thursday, Sept. 16, 6 p.m. "The Right and the Good" by CUA President John Garvey President Garvey will present an anti-liberal argument in favor of freedom. Caldwell Hall Auditorium
