The Catholic University of America is preparing for Christmas in many ways, including its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, which will be held in the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center. Other events include several concerts by the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music and opportunities for prayer and reflection sponsored by the Office of Campus Ministry. The Christmas events are:
Monday, Nov. 29, 9 p.m. " Polar Express ," a 2004 computer-animated film, will be presented by CUA Cinema. Pryzbyla Center, Food Court.
Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 30. Residence Hall Confession . Confessions will be heard in the residence halls from 8 to 10 p.m. from Tuesday, Nov. 30, through Thursday, Dec. 2, and on Monday, Dec. 6, Tuesday, Dec. 7, and Thursday, Dec 9.
Wednesday, Dec. 1, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Phi Sigma Tau and Philosophy Club Christmas Party . Aquinas Hall, second floor foyer.
Friday, Dec. 3, 5 p.m. "Light the Season," CUA's Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony . Pryzbyla Center, Third-Floor Atrium (across from Starbucks).
Friday, Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m. 22nd Annual Christmas Concert for Charity presented by the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music and Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Basilica, Great Upper Church. This year's concert will benefit the Annual Vieban Fund of Theological College. The concert will feature the combined CUA Orchestra and University Chorus. A carillon recital will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. through Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m., there will be 24-hour Advent Eucharistic Adoration for expectant mothers, the unborn and the culture of life on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. Through Friday, Dec. 10, CUA Giving Tree . The university community is invited to donate gifts for neighbors in the Brookland community and kids in the Children's National Medical Center. Presents can be dropped off at Campus Ministry. Students are invited to shop for CUA giving tree gifts on Sunday, Dec. 5. A group will depart from Campus Ministry at 2 p.m. A wish list is posted at http://service.cua.edu .
Saturday, Dec. 11, 7-9 p.m. " I'm Dreaming of a Cancer-Free Christmas ." An a cappella concert in Caldwell Hall Auditorium.
Sunday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. Catholic University Women's Chorus presents a concert of holiday music. St. Peter's Church on Capitol Hill, 312 2nd St., S.E., Washington, D.C.
Sunday, Dec. 5, 5 to 7 p.m. Filipino Concert hosted by FOCUS in collaboration with the Embassy of the Philippines. Pryzybla Center, Great Room.
Tuesday, Dec. 7, 3 to 9 p.m. Posada Party hosted by Students on the Mount. Pryzbyla Center, Great Room A and B.
Wednesday, Dec. 8. Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception , a Holy Day of Obligation. University Masses will be celebrated at 5:10 p.m. in Caldwell Chapel and 9 p.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Chapel.
Friday, Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m. Chamber Choir Presents a concert including Christmas music . St. Vincent DePaul Chapel. Leo Nestor, Justine Bayard Ward Professor of Music, will conduct.
Friday, Dec. 10, 8 p.m. Program Board sponsors Mistletoe Ball , CUA's annual holiday dance open to students. Fairfax at Embassy Row Hotel.
Saturday, Dec. 11, 7 p.m. Ice Skating at the Sculpture Garden sponsored by CU Saturday. National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink. Students will meet in the Pryzbyla Center at the Information Desk and should bring money for Metrorail.
Monday, Dec. 13, 7 p.m. Advent Lessons and Carols sponsored by Campus Ministry. Caldwell Chapel.
Monday, Dec. 13, 8:45 to 10 p.m. Annual Christmas Party hosted by Live Out Love. Millennium North, Room 313.
Wednesday, Dec. 15, 10 p.m. to midnight. Late Night Breakfast sponsored by the Program Board. Pryzbyla Center, Great Room. In addition to breakfast fare such as tater tots, pancakes, eggs, and sausage, the event will feature karaoke.
