Junior Jocelyn Grecko says it's always been her dream to intern at Fox News Channel. She accomplished that dream this semester when she learned she would be working on the channel's "Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace."
Now, she's accomplished something even greater: being named Intern of the Week earlier this month by Fox News. Grecko, a media studies major from Pittsburgh, grew up watching the network in her family's home. She says she decided to pursue the internship after feeling like she'd gained enough experience to qualify. She's previously interned in the office of Pennsylvania State Senator John Pippy's office, at the Optical Society of America, and for Allegheny West Magazine . Since she started working at Fox, she's had the chance to report her own stories for Fox News Channel University, the website for the network's interns. One of her most recent pieces was a segment about a March 21 tribute to former President George H.W. Bush by the Points of Light Institute. For that piece, she got a chance to interview celebrities, including musicians Carrie Underwood and Darius Rucker. Her other responsibilities include updating the show's social media accounts, creating the show's website polls, assisting with Wallace's show, greeting show guests on Sunday mornings, printing scripts, conducting research, and building on-screen graphics."During my time with Fox, I have had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the fields of journalism, broadcasting, production, and research," says Grecko. "I've also had the opportunity to shake hands with some prominent politicians, meet 2012 presidential contenders, be in the presence of the four living former presidents, and interview many well-known celebrities. There's no doubt that this internship has been a dream come true for me. It is something for which I have worked very diligently and it's an opportunity I will never forget." Her dream of working at the Washington bureau of Fox News was one reason that Grecko, who wants to pursue a career in media relations, chose to attend CUA. "Here in D.C., CUA students have the ability to learn from nearly any leading company or organization," she explains. "I have found my internships to be extremely valuable and trust that they - along with my experiences in the classroom at CUA - will help me in pursuing a career that helps make a difference in the world."
