University Issues Progress Report on Implementation of Ex corde Ecclesiae

Catholic University has issued a report detailing the progress it has made in sustaining and promoting its Catholic identity over the course of the last decade. To read the report, see http://publicaffairs.cua.edu/cuapublications/ex-corde-ecclesiae.cfm .   The report has been issued as the bishops of the United States review how Catholic colleges and universities in their respective dioceses have fulfilled the norms adopted 10 years ago for implementing Ex corde Ecclesiae , the apostolic constitution promulgated by Pope John Paul II that defines the nature of Catholic institutions of higher education."Like all Catholic university and college presidents in the United States, I was charged during the first half of this year with meeting with our local ordinary (our Chancellor, Cardinal Donald Wuerl) to talk about the review of The Application of Ex corde Ecclesiae 10 years after the norms were approved by the bishops," said University President John Garvey. "In preparation for our meeting I drafted a written report for the Cardinal. With his input, the report was finalized and has been published." The report has been disseminated to the University's trustees, faculty, and staff. Because Catholic University is the national university of the Catholic Church, founded by the U.S. Catholic bishops, all active bishops in the United States also received a copy of the report.
