National Press Club Panel Discussion: 2011 Survey of U.S. Catholics

WHEN:

Monday, Oct. 24, noon-3 p.m.

WHERE: National Press Club, Murrow Room 529 14th St., N.W. Washington, D.C.
DETAILS: The discussion of a 2011 survey of U.S. Catholics features panelists William D'Antonio, senior fellow at Catholic University's Institute for Policy Research & Catholic Studies; Michele Dillon, professor of sociology at the University of New Hampshire; Mary Gautier, senior research associate at the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) of Georgetown University; and Tom Roberts, editor-at-large at the National Catholic Reporter .

In 1987, D'Antonio and his colleagues at the Life Cycle Institute at Catholic University (now called the Institute for Policy Research & Catholic Studies) conducted a survey of U.S. Catholics to assess their attitudes on a range of religious, political, and social issues. Since then D'Antonio has led researchers in conducting a survey of Catholic attitudes every six years. Now the results of the 2011 survey are available. The surveys provide trend data on Catholic practice, doctrinal beliefs, and other issues such as attitudes towards the Vatican and the Church's social teachings. The latest survey also assesses the views of Hispanic Catholics.

Refreshments will be served.
