| DETAILS | Cardinal Kurt Koch of Switzerland, president of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, will give a lecture titled "Fundamental Aspects of Ecumenism and Future Perspectives" on Nov. 3. Born in 1950, Cardinal Koch studied theology at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and at the University of Lucerne, graduating in 1975 with a doctorate in theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1982. Ordained bishop of Basel by Pope John Paul II, he served in that position from 1995 to 2010. Pope Benedict XVI appointed Cardinal Koch president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity in July 2010. The following November, the pope appointed him a cardinal. He served as president of the Swiss Episcopal Conference from 2007 to 2010. He is a member of the Swiss Council of Religions, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.
