| DETAILS | In honor of Catholic University's 125th anniversary, Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., president of Providence College of Rhode Island, will deliver the lecture, "Saint Thomas Aquinas: Companion and Patron." Prior to becoming president of Providence College in 2005, Father Shanley was an associate professor of philosophy at Catholic University. He holds a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Toronto, a licentiate in philosophy from Catholic University, and a master of divinity and a licentiate in sacred theology from the Dominican House of Studies. Father Shanley was ordained a priest in the Dominican Order in 1987. He has been an adviser to the prior provincial of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph, which includes the states of the Northeast and Ohio. Father Shanley has served on the executive committee of the American Catholic Philosophical Association and as associate editor and editor of The Thomist as well as a member of the editorial board for the International Journal for Philosophy of Religion . Widely published in philosophy-focused academic journals, Father Shanley's research interests include Saint Thomas Aquinas, philosophy of religion, metaphysics, medieval philosophy, and ethics.
