The 18 students in Catholic University's Master of Science in Business Analysis (M.S.B.A.) program visited New York City last month for the chance to query top executives of nine companies on current and upcoming job trends in the business world.

"There are good jobs available in finance, marketing, entertainment, and media, particularly for students who are comfortable in new media," says Stewart McHie, M.S.B.A. program director.

On the trip Nov. 8 to 11, the students learned what job opportunities are available in today's difficult marketplace. Starting positions in the marketing services and media companies they visited - DDB Worldwide advertising agency, OMD media communications specialists, Interbrand consultancy, and Carat Media - called for skills in digital marketing and social media.

Opportunities in finance were presented by an employee of J.P. Morgan, where students learned about jobs other than just investment banking. The Madison Square Garden sales and marketing staff shared information about event management and planning. Mark Kranz, chief financial officer at Fox Business News, and several of his colleagues talked about the business side of media.

"Students left with an appreciation of the skills they are learning in the program, the effect a good internship can have, and the importance of networking." McHie says.

The students' trip was featured Dec. 4 in The Washington Post’s Capital Business section .
