CUA Celebrates Women's History Month

The Catholic University of America hosts events throughout March in honor of Women’s History Month .

In 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women's History Project, Congress passed a law designating the month of March 1987 as Women's History Month, according to the Library of Congress website. Every March since then has been celebrated as Women's History Month.

"Celebrating Women's History Month at CUA is important because the women in our community deserve to be celebrated," says Ryan-Allen McKinney, associate director of campus activities. "From Mary Gwendolyn Caldwell's $300,000 donation, which helped found CUA, to today, women connected to the CUA community have achieved significant accomplishments and have contributed to CUA in phenomenal ways."

McKinney notes that the planned events are a combined effort of many student organizations and campus offices that felt the recognition of CUA women was important.

"We hope our celebration of Women's History Month will educate the CUA community about the accomplishments of women, will empower all to strive for their dreams, and will demonstrate what a supportive community we have at CUA," McKinney adds.
